Acupressure
Acupressure has been considered a generic term for those healing arts which use pressure applied with a thumb finger to stimulate specific
points on the surface of the body. These points are located along a system of energy meridians, and the stimulation is intended to promote
free flow of energy along them. Abnormal function in organs, muscles, and bodily systems as well as feelings of pain, tension and discomfort
are all associated with restricted flow of energy along particular meridians.
Tuina
Tuina in Chinese means literally to "push-pull"; and is based on the theories and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Tuina is a common therapy practiced in the hospitals of China today. Tuina techniques include: rolling, pushing, kneading, pressing, rocking, as well as adjunct therapies such as: Cupping (fire cups), Moxibustion (burning herbal therapy) and "Gua Sha" (spooning technique) to achieve a desired effect. The use of particular herbal lineaments, balms and ointments may also be applied to the body based on the individual’s specific
needs. Tuina is effective in tonifying the
entire constitution and is useful in the treatment of sports injuries & chronic physical ailments.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu developed in Japan from a synthesis of Chinese massage therapy and western techniques of physical manipulation.
In Japanese, Shiatsu means "finger pressure" and its treatment focuses on specific channels (meridians) of subtle body energy called "Ki" (Japanese) or "Chi" (Chinese). According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, "Chi" is the life force which sustains every activity of the body, mind and spirit. As specific points along the meridians are contacted their stimulation affects the flow of "Chi" energy throughout the body. Naturally smooth-flowing "Chi" allows for the body’s potential to perform it’s functions optimally.
Shiatsu is recommended for: neck, shoulder and back pain, stress reduction, fatigue and muscular tension, improved circulation and digestion, increased flexibility and detoxification, improving sleep and preventing disease.
Massage
Therapy Swedish
Swedish Massage uses the system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles
combined with active and passive movements of the joints. Used primarily for a full body session, it promotes general relaxation,
improves circulation, range of motion and relieves muscle tension.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy is a technique of concentrated pressure, stretching and moving of the connective tissue
that envelopes the muscles (fascia) in order to lengthen and balance the body along it's natural vertical axis. Distortions of the connective tissue
may be caused by reaction and compensation due to accidents, emotional tension or past traumas that were never released. The
benefits of deep tissue massage are numerous. It is used to remove chronic muscular pain, help with injury rehabilitation and reduce
inflammation type pain caused by ailments such as arthritis and tendonitis. By helping to remove accumulated lactic acid and other waste
products from the muscles, deep tissue massage works to detoxify tissue.
